National Victims of Crime Awareness Week 2010

Every Victim Matters

April 18 - 24, 2010

April 18 - 24, 2010 will mark the 5th annual National Victims of Crime Awareness Week (NVCAW) in Canada. This fifth anniversary is an important milestone for us to recognize across the country. In commemoration of NVCAW 2010, an all-day federal symposium will be held in Ottawa on Monday, April 19, 2010 at Old City Hall (111 Sussex Drive). Further details will be disseminated in the coming months by e-mail and on the National Victims of Crime Awareness Week website.

Every victim of crime - no matter who they are, where they live or the way in which they were victimized – should be treated with compassion and respect for their dignity.  Victims of crime have a role in Canada’s justice system and there are laws, policies and programs which give them an opportunity to participate and have their voices heard at different stages in the criminal justice process.  The dedication of professionals and volunteers alike who work tirelessly and selflessly with victims of crime and their families and who show, in their daily actions, that every victim truly does matter.
