Supporting, Connecting, Evolving is the theme of this year's National Victims of Crime Awareness Week, taking place across Canada from April 26 to May 2, 2009.  Activities across the country will focus on raising awareness of existing supports and services available to victims of crime in Canada, as well as further exploring new ways to reach out to victims.

"National Victims of Crime Awareness Week is an important opportunity to remind Canadians about the issues facing victims of crime, as well as the supports and services available," said the Honourable Rob Nicholson, P.C., Q.C., M.P. for Niagara Falls, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada.  "Supporting victims of crime takes a collaborative effort and this Government  is committed to working with our partners to help victims of crime navigate the criminal justice system."

National Victims of Crime Awareness Week 2009 will be launched in Ottawa on April 27 by the federal Ministers of Justice and Public Safety, when victims, victim advocates and representatives working in the area of victim issues will gather for the fourth annual Federal Symposium, hosted by the Government of Canada.
